The Road to the 2027 U.S. Open Cup Starts Here

One step. One match. One chance to move closer.

On Sunday, September 13, the road to the 2027 U.S. Open Cup officially begins for the OVPL.

The 2026 OVPL Men’s Champion, Mockingbird Valley Premier, will face Southern Indiana Guardians FC at Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in the first step of the U.S. Open Cup qualifying process.

Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM ET.

This isn't the Open Cup yet.

It's the beginning of the chase.

For Mockingbird Valley Premier, this opportunity comes after a dominant OVPL season that ended with the club lifting the league championship trophy. Now, the stakes change. The competition gets bigger. And the margin for error gets smaller.

The U.S. Open Cup is one of the most unique competitions in American soccer because of what it represents: clubs from across the country, from different levels and different communities, given the opportunity to compete for something much bigger than themselves.

But first, you have to earn your way in.

That's what Sunday represents.

Step One.

Mockingbird Valley Premier enters the match knowing exactly what's at stake. A win keeps the journey alive. A loss ends it.

There are no guarantees beyond the final whistle.

Just 90 minutes to take the next step.

The OVPL was built to create meaningful competition and meaningful opportunities for adult amateur players and clubs.

Cup qualifying is part of that mission.

The chance for a local club to compete for a place in one of the country's most historic soccer competitions is exactly the kind of opportunity that makes the amateur game matter.

And now, the first chapter of the 2027 journey is ready to be written.
