OVPL expands to Evansville!
The fifth new club to commit to playing in the 2021 season of the Ohio Valley Premier League (OVPL) is Evansville Legends FC. Established in 2021, the Evansville Legends FC are the 20th men’s team in the League. In a community of over 117,000 residents, the Evansville Legends FC are the first competitive amateur men’s soccer team to represent their community and seek competition in the US Open Cup.
Evansville has a rich soccer history, including two universities: University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana. There have been notable soccer players who have spent developmental years in Evansville, David Weir, Josh Tudela, Scott Cannon, Steve Klein, Marc Burch, Troy Perkins, Lucas Stauffer, Max Lachowecki, and Ian McGrath.
General Manager Steve McCullough added, “Over the years the Tristate area has been lucky to have some of the best collegiate, high school and youth coaches in the country. Coaches like Schmalz, Adlard, Colavecchia and Vieth have grown my love, passion, and competitiveness for the game! True legends of the game both local and on a national level! We are excited to be part of the OVPL and offer our local soccer community a chance to play against some of the best amateur teams in the Midwest.”

The Ohio Valley Premier League (OVPL) was created to operate a competitive soccer circuit offering the only adult amateur competition throughout the Ohio Valley (Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania) region. Player development is a central focus of the League, as the League strives to promote the region at a national level.
The OVPL seeks to grow the game of soccer in the region by providing a highly competitive soccer league for men, women, boys, and girls of all ages. The League is sanctioned through US Club Soccer and provides access to competing in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the nation’s longest running tournament.
